Battle Proms Picnic Concert

This summer, immerse yourself in a spectacular outdoor evening of music, nostalgia, and theatre at Blenheim Palace’s iconic Battle Proms Picnic Concert, beginning at 2 pm on Saturday 5 July. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Column of Victory, this is the 20th year of this unforgettable event.
A true Vintage Spectacular to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the event transforms Blenheim's lawns into a living history tableau, complete with WWII re-enactors, classic vehicles, and an authentic wartime ambience. The Battle Proms Belles bring swing-era charm, and the Victory Swing dancers encourage everyone to join in beneath fluttering bunting.
From 6:45 pm, you’ll witness dramatic live action as the legendary Red Devils parachute drop into the arena. Cavalry and infantry displays, along with the roar of live musketry and cannon fire, bring history vividly to life across the parkland.
As evening falls, the New English Concert Orchestra, conducted by Douglas Coombes MBE, takes to the stage. Expect a stunning aerial ballet from a Grace Spitfire during Holst’s "Jupiter," its Merlin engine humming above the grounds.
Then comes a powerful crescendo: over 200 live cannons firing in sync with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Beethoven’s Battle Symphony—a feat unique to Battle Proms. Soprano Denise Leigh will also take the spotlight with operatic highlights and lead a rousing flag-waving finale including Jerusalem, Rule, Britannia! and Land of Hope and Glory.
For the first time ever, a dazzling drone light display by DroneSwarm will illuminate the skies, blending modern tech with classical majesty.
The grand finale? A breathtaking firework display choreographed to music, closing the evening on a high at around 10:30 pm. It’s a visual and emotional climax to an already spectacular day.
This is a bring-your-own blanket event—but elevated. Attendees are encouraged to bring a full picnic setup: food, drinks, chairs, even candelabras if you’re feeling festive. Children under 4 go free, and there are food vendors and bars on-site if you prefer to travel light.
Environmentally conscious? Battle Proms promotes green habits—reusable containers, minimal waste, and refillable bottles are all encouraged.
