Malmesbury Carnival 2025: A Month of Celebration, Community & Colour

Every summer, Malmesbury comes alive with the energy, colour and creativity of our beloved Carnival. And 2025 promises to be one of the most exciting years yet! With a packed calendar of events running throughout August, the Malmesbury Carnival blends tradition and fun in a truly unique way — all while raising vital funds for local charities and community groups.
Whether you’re a local resident, a first-time visitor, or someone returning for more Carnival magic, here’s everything you need to know.
What’s On This August?
Open Gardens – Sunday 3 August
Get a rare glimpse behind garden gates across Malmesbury. Wander through private gardens full of colour, charm and creativity. Tickets are just £6 — a perfect day out for nature lovers.
Scarecrow Trail – 1 to 25 August
A firm family favourite! Explore Malmesbury and spot scarecrows created by local residents and groups, themed this year around “The Best of British.” Trail maps are just £3 and available at the Tourist Information Centre and online.
Petticoat Lane – Sunday 17 August
The High Street transforms into a vibrant street market, packed with independent traders, crafts, delicious food and drink, and live entertainment. It’s one of the Carnival’s biggest days — don’t miss it!
Silent Disco – Friday 22 August
Join us at the Wesleyan Hall for a unique disco experience. With family-friendly sessions and late-night adult sets, you’ll dance like nobody’s watching (or hearing). Headphones provided — moves are up to you!
“Mamma Mia!” Sing-a-Long
ABBA fans rejoice! Sing along to the iconic soundtrack in a feel-good film night that’s sure to be one of the Carnival's most joyful evenings.
Wine Tasting, Quiz Nights, Workshops & More
From interactive quizzes and tasting sessions to creative craft workshops and live music — our full programme is designed to bring the community together and offer something for everyone.
Carnival Procession – Saturday 30 August, 6pm
It all builds up to this! Our legendary Carnival Procession brings together floats, costumes, musicians, dancers and community groups in a spectacular parade through town.
Want to take part? Whether you’re a walking group, a solo character or a decked-out float, everyone’s welcome. We’ll also be hosting free workshops leading up to the day, including creative costume sessions for kids and families.

More Than Just a Party
While Carnival is all about celebration, it’s also about giving back. In 2024, we raised over £26,000 for local charities and causes — supporting schools, clubs, societies and community projects across the region.
Malmesbury Carnival is organised entirely by volunteers. If you’d like to get involved — by volunteering, sponsoring, or contributing an idea — we’d love to hear from you!
