Purple Bliss: Visiting the Cotswolds Lavender Fields

Tucked away in the rolling hills of the Cotswolds lies one of England’s most enchanting seasonal experiences, Cotswold Lavender. For just a few precious weeks each summer, this family-run farm transforms into a sea of vibrant purple, inviting visitors to slow down, breathe deeply, and immerse themselves in nature’s most calming scent.

A Bloom Worth Waiting For

Cotswold Lavender is not open year-round, which makes it all the more special. The fields typically welcome visitors from mid-June to early August, with July being the peak time to witness the lavender in full bloom.

As you wander through the farm, you’ll find yourself surrounded by up to 45 acres of lavender fields, stretching across the countryside with breathtaking views over Broadway and the Vale of Evesham.

The farm itself has been growing lavender since 1999, and today it boasts over 35 varieties of lavender, thriving in the region’s limestone soil and elevated climate.

A Sensory Experience Like No Other

Visiting Cotswold Lavender is more than just a visual treat, it's a full sensory experience. The gentle hum of bees, the soft rustle of wind through the rows, and the unmistakable fragrance of lavender create a calming, almost meditative atmosphere.

Many visitors describe it as stepping into another world. One review captures it perfectly: the air feels “perfumed,” and the landscape becomes a “moment of calm distilled into nature.”

It’s no surprise that the fields are often considered one of the most Instagrammable spots in the Cotswolds.

What to See and Do

There’s more to explore than just lavender rows. The farm offers a variety of experiences to make your visit memorable:

  • Lavender Fields: Walk freely among rows of blooming lavender and soak in panoramic countryside views.
  • Wildflower Meadows: A colourful contrast to the purple fields, perfect for photography.
  • Beechwood Trail: A woodland path ideal for families and a bit of adventure.
  • The Distillery: Discover how lavender is harvested and turned into essential oils.

Whether you’re strolling, snapping photos, or simply sitting in silence, there’s a peaceful rhythm to the place that encourages you to slow down.

Picnic Among the Purple

One of the highlights of a visit is the chance to bring your own picnic. Scattered benches and shaded spots invite you to relax among the fields, making it easy to turn your visit into a full day out.

If you prefer to treat yourself, the on-site cabin offers refreshments and lavender-inspired delights, from ice cream to scones, so you can quite literally taste the experience.

Planning Your Visit

A few practical tips can make your visit even more enjoyable:

  • Arrive early: The fields can get busy, especially in peak bloom.
  • No advance booking: Tickets are purchased on arrival, and card payment is required.
  • Best time to visit: Late June for fewer crowds, or July for peak colour.
  • Getting there: Located near Snowshill, just a couple of miles from Broadway, with free parking available.

A Fleeting but Unforgettable Experience

What makes Cotswold Lavender truly magical is its fleeting nature. Open for only a short window each year, it feels like a hidden gem that rewards those who seek it out at just the right time.

Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or simply someone in need of a peaceful escape, a visit to these lavender fields offers a moment of stillness that lingers long after the season ends.

So when summer arrives, follow the scent of lavender, and let the Cotswolds surprise you.
