The CotswoldXL Sustainability Stars
We have compiled a list of outstanding businesses and organisations in the Cotswolds that prioritise sustainability, making it a central part of their business model and, in turn, making the Cotswolds and the planet a better place for everyone.
WHICHFORD, WARWICKSHIRE - Whichford Pottery
Established in 1976 by Jim and Dominique Keeling, Whichford Pottery has grown to become one of the largest hand-made potteries in Europe. It is very much a family-owned business, with various family members taking on different roles. They utilise traditional hand-thrown and hand-pressed methods, keeping valuable ancient skills alive. They also only use ethically sourced materials, and every part of the pot-making process takes place on- site. They also aim to support other local businesses whenever possible and strive to always provide their customers with the very best.
WHICHFORD POTTERY, WHICHFORD - The Straw Kitchen
The Straw Kitchen, which is part of Whichford Pottery, was constructed in 2014 by Maia and her partner, Christine. It’s a uniquely sustainable and quirky place to enjoy a coffee, cake or a delicious lunch. They have an uncompromising commitment to the environment, with an emphasis on ethical and sustainable food production. Plus, they champion the utmost respect for the planet, people and the community. Their menu is always seasonal, simple yet stylish. It changes weekly depending on what is available from their kitchen garden and local suppliers.

SOMERFORD KEYNES, GLOUCESTERSHIRE - Lower Mill – Luxury Eco Breaks
Located within the Cotswold Water Park, Lower Mill features award-winning luxury lodges with two to six bedrooms, thoughtfully designed with the natural world in mind. It’s a private estate immersed in nature, where guests are encouraged to enjoy the outdoors while minimising their environmental impact. Activities include non-motorised water sports, bike hire and sunset safaris. There are also hands-on nature activities such as nature walks and talks with on-site ecology teams and guest conservationists. There is a range of eco-friendly properties with heat source air-pumps, living roofs, and EV charging stations.

LITTLE TEW, OXFORDSHIRE - Chippy Flower Farm
Chippy Flower Farm was established in 2021 to provide locals with a more sustainable alternative to imported flowers.
Their flowers are sown, planted, and harvested by hand in their natural season. They use no-dig regenerative techniques to protect the soil and farm organically. Their flower fields are a haven for pollinators, birds, and insects. They produce a constantly changing selection of flowers and foliage from late March through to December. All carefully chosen for their colour, scent, vase life, and grace. They can provide flowers for weddings, events or funerals. Additionally, they offer workshops and farm tours.

The CotswoldXL Sustainability Stars shine a light on the region’s most inspiring businesses and organisations—those placing environmental stewardship and community at the heart of everything they do. From regenerative farming and ethical pottery to eco‑conscious retreats and market‑garden makers, these change makers aren’t just building businesses—they’re nurturing a future where purpose and profit go hand in hand.
Together, they demonstrate that sustainability isn’t a side project—it’s good business, thoughtful community-building, and a path to preserving the beauty and resilience of the Cotswolds for generations to come.
Let these Sustainability Stars guide your next trip, purchase, or project—because positive local impact starts with intentional support.
