Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (or vanilla extract)
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Whole almonds (for fingernails)
  • Red food coloring or strawberry jam (for “blood” effect)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add egg and extract: Mix in the egg and almond (or vanilla) extract until combined.
  4. Mix dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until dough forms.
  5. Shape fingers: Take small pieces of dough (about 1 tablespoon each) and roll them into finger shapes about 3-4 inches long.
  6. Create knuckles: Gently press 3 small indentations into each finger with the back of a knife or toothpick.
  7. Add fingernails: Press a whole almond onto the tip of each finger as the nail.
  8. Bake: Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, until lightly golden.
  9. Add “blood”: Once slightly cooled, dab a bit of red food coloring or strawberry jam around the almond nail to look like creepy blood.

These cookies look spooky but taste delicious — perfect for Halloween parties or trick-or-treat treats!
